For lid owners
Rent the back of the laptop you already carry
Brands want their sticker on the laptops of people who work where you work. You decide which ones get there. Signing up is free, refusing is free, and you are never charged for anything.
What you earn, by tier
Your tier comes from the work email you prove. These are your takings at the floor: 90% of what the brand pays, per zone, per month. Rates climb above the floor once a tier runs out of open zones.
| Tier | How you get it | Per zone | All 8 |
|---|---|---|---|
| S · Frontier | work email proven at a frontier AI lab | $90 | $720/mo |
| A · Big tech | proven at an established big-tech company | $45 | $360/mo |
| B · Startup | proven at any other company inbox | $13.50 | $108/mo |
| C · Explorer | claimed, no work email proven yet | $4.50 | $36/mo |
filling all 8 zones takes 8 separate offers you each said yes to · read the last column as the ceiling at today's floors, not a promise
The 8 zones
Your lid is a 3x3 grid. The center cell is reserved for the laptop's own logo and is never rented, which leaves 8 zones around the edge. Each one is let separately, by the month, to a different brand if you want. An empty zone costs you nothing and can be filled later.

How verification works
- 01
Claim the lid
Sign in with a one-time code to your email. No password exists. Then set up your profile: where you work, your city, your region.
- 02
Prove where you work
We send a second one-time code to your work email. The domain you prove sets your tier, not the company name you typed. Free inboxes and throwaway addresses do not count. We store the domain and a one-way hash of the address, never the address itself, and we never mail it again.
- 03
Keep it honest
The tier follows the employer, so it moves when you do. Verifying with a work email you are not entitled to use is grounds for removal.
Control and safety
You are renting space on something you carry every day, so the defaults are all in your favour.
Nothing lands on your lid without an explicit yes from you. You see the brand, the artwork, the declared category, and the rate before anything is agreed.
Rule out entire kinds of advertiser up front and those offers never reach you at all. The categories are: dev tools & infra, AI products, consumer apps, fintech, crypto & web3, gambling & betting, political & advocacy, everything else.
Brands bid on segments, never on people. They never see your name, email address, shipping address, or handles. They only learn that a matching lid accepted.
The vinyl is die-cut and residue-free, and nothing is ever permanent. End a placement whenever you want: the zone reopens, your payout is prorated to the day, and the brand is refunded the rest of that month.
How the money reaches you
- Brands pay for a campaign before it reaches you, so every offer in your feed is already funded. Owners are paid monthly through Stripe. You are never charged, for anything.
- A cycle's money releases after the full 30-day cycle closes and you upload a fresh photo of the lid with that cycle's code visible in the shot.
- A placement starts earning when your first photo of the placed sticker passes review, and the sticker has to stay on while it earns. Spot checks can ask for another photo.
- End a placement early and your payout prorates to the day, down to the cent. The number in your dashboard is what you are paid, unrounded.
We ship within the US only for now, so you need a US shipping address to receive vinyl. bidmylid is in early access: claim a lid and the offers arrive as brands launch campaigns that match it.
Questions owners ask
- Does bidmylid charge me anything?
- No. Owners are never charged. The 10% platform fee is built into the rate the brand pays; you keep 90% of that rate, and what you see in your dashboard is what lands in your account.
- Do brands bid on me personally?
- No. They bid on segments: a company's verified employees, a city, a region. If your lid matches the segment, the offer reaches you at the segment rate. You are never auctioned as an individual and you are never named.
- What if I do not want a particular sticker?
- Refuse it. Every placement needs your explicit approval, and you can block entire campaign categories in advance so those offers never appear. Refusing costs you nothing.
- What actually goes on the laptop?
- Die-cut removable vinyl, sized to one of your zones, supplied by the brand and mailed to you by us. It is residue-free. Nothing is permanent, and the center of the lid is never used.
- Can I take a cheaper campaign than my tier?
- Yes. A lid can accept work aimed at its own tier or any tier below it, paid at that lower tier's rate. A frontier-lab owner can fill an idle zone with a startup's sticker at the startup price rather than leave it empty.
- When do I actually get paid?
- Monthly, through Stripe, after a full 30-day cycle closes and you send a fresh photo of the lid with that cycle's code visible. That photo is the only thing standing between a closed cycle and the payout.
